The 3 books are (Top to Bottom of the stack): Statistics of Mines and Minining in the States and Territories West of the Rocky Mountains (1872), Birk's Works Volume II (1837), Appendix to the Congressional Globe of the 41st Congress, Volume VII (1870). The last book on the bottom is Congressional Globe volume from the 42nd Congress of 1872, which Floyd Simpson purchased. The Congressional Globe was the predecessor to the currently published Congressional Record, a record of the "speeches, reports and the laws" of the US Congress.
